Southerly points, Coves and Castles
On
this tour you will experience the rugged coastline of
the Lizard Peninsula in contrast with the quiet, calm
beauty of the Helford River, one of the most picturesque
Cornish Estuaries.
We
will explore the secluded coves where Cornish wreckers
plied their evil trade and visit a cove surrounded by
traditional thatched cottages where the small fishing
boats are hauled clear of crashing waves and gales on
wooden rollers.
Lunch
will be at a farm restaurant, famous for its ice cream.
In
the afternoon we will start by visiting a churchyard
with phenomenal sea views and see the mass graves of
sailors who perished on the Manacle Rocks, the site
of over 300 shipwrecks.
We
will then drive through the Cornish back lanes along
the creeks of the Helford Passage where pirates and
boat-builders abound during the age of sail. Finally
we will visit the magnificent Falmouth Harbour and 16th
century Pendennis Castle.
This
tour is a day of genuine ‘off-the-beaten-track’
exploration of some of Cornwall’s most awe-inspiring
coastline.
