West
Penwith Explorer
This
leisurely 75 miles tour explores the most western extremes
of mainland Cornwall. First passing St Michael’s
Mount en route for the busy harbours of Penzance and
Newlyn where artists and tourists mingle with Cornwall’s
traditional fishing industry. From there we shall visit
Mousehole and other tiny fishing coves, where myth,
legend and fact intertwine in an intriguing manner.
A brief visit to the rugged promontory of Lands End
is followed by a visit to the beautiful Sennen Cove.
We will experience the energy of ancient stone circles
and burial sites. We will also think about the hardships
of 19th century miners and their families while treading
the same paths that they did. This day of experiencing
Cornwall’s culture and history will culminate
in a drive through the beautiful North Cornwall fishing
port of St Ives before returning home through Cornwall’s
chief tin mining area.
There
will be plenty of opportunity to photograph the breathtaking
views of the coast and moorland of Cornwall on this
tour of myth, legend and history.
